Posted - 23/03/2011 : 12:07:27 Yes apparently im a mouse or so my cali thought last night. He tagged me twice last night when i got him out for cleaning
I took him on as a biter but he has never bitten before so im probably going to answer my own question here but here goes ... Is there anything i can do apart from increase his prey size and handle him more to stop him biting me? (Its very much food behaviour he is showing and not because he is scared) I generally dont handle him at the moment as im so busy so pretty much everytime he sees me its to be fed. He is also constantly on the look out for food and takes two small mice every 7 ish days but i think he could take bigger.
Any advise much appreciated |

Posted - 04/04/2011 : 21:18:38 What's the weight of your snake? I know it's true with royals and I assume other snakes as well, that you feed them about 10-15% of their body weight. My 5ft cali takes small rats between 45 to 70g no problem, usually 2 at a time. If you can, try him on rat pups as there is more nutrition in a rat. |

Posted - 24/03/2011 : 10:13:51 He is roughly 2.5 - 3ft and his widest part is approx 1 inch! Sorry thats a rough guess but generally after he has gobbled two small mice there isnt much of a bump showing.
I've had him a few months now and i've really noticed his neck and build is getting more solid, i think he is gona be a chunky and very handsome chap |

As for how to get him to stop, it's just a matter of handling. The more you handle, the more he'll tolerate it. |
