Had a go at this for the first time yesterday so thought I'd share how I did it

What you will need
Wire mesh (£6 from B&Q) this should be enough to make 3 guards
Wire cutters
A screw

First cut out the net of the guard. I made mine si that each side of the guard would be 10 squares wide and 18 squares high. (This is actually 2 squares taller than I needed but the reason for this will become clear later), and then a square at the bottom that was 10x10.

Make sure that you leave some wire sticking out so that you can fasten the guard together

Next, begin folding your guard in to shape. You can do this by hand

You should then have the extra bits of wire overhanging like this

Fold the over so that the guard is fastened and the wire is tucked inside so that the snake cannot hurt itself on it

Next fold the bottom over and fasten it as well

At this stage the guard is ready to use if you can find a way to attach it to the viv. Unfortunately I couldn't and thats why I cut the mesh so that it was two squares too tall. I then trimmed most of these two squares away but left four vertical bits of wire protruding

Fold these pieces of wire outwards and then wrap it around the screw

Your guard is now complete and ready to attach
