Hi guys. Does anybody here use racking systems? I'm trying really hard to not buy anymore kings or milks but I think I'm about to fail. I thought that if I got a racking system it might not be so bad space wise. I'm unsure as to keeping them in dark boxes though. And I'm also unsure what sizes of rubs I would need?

Can anyone help?

This is why I love this forum no being slated for using rubs

I only put half of the backing board on. This still allows the unit to remain rigid but allows airflow too and leaves plenty of room for cables. If I had a decent circular saw I'd half the remaining piece of backing board and put that on too but for now half of it will do.

Oh one more question, have you put a vent in each level of the shelf?

I did wonder about temps and different species. I think I may go about it heating individual shelves, I love kings but I'm hoping to breed Sand Boas and Garters in the next couple of years so individual stats would probably be the best option.

Thanks for all your input guys, its really helped and got me steering in the direction I want.

Yes I have an individual heatmat and stat for each shelf. If I was doing it again I would consider a heat cable and pulse stat although the current setup works better for me as I have a mix of species (kings, corns and royal) so I can give each one a different temp.

A trip to Ikea it is I think. How have you heated it? Do you use individual heat mats and stats?

Here's my rack. It holds 8 snakes, 5 of which are kings. It's made from an ikea PAX wardrobe frame and shelves. Everyone has their own idea on what size RUBs to use. I personally think the bigger the better so I use 70 litre RUBS for my adult snakes. They measure 810 x 620 x 225mm. I use the 22 litre RUBS for my younger snakes which meausre 820 x 255 x 155mm. The rack below has 5 x 70 litre and 3 x 22 litre RUBS on it.

Lol I know they can come in clear. I meant that a racking system surely lets in less light. But then again I suppose that also depends on where you set up the rack. Did you make or buy your rack? I found some for around £100 and some for a £1000. Would you recommend anything particular?

I have our kings in a rack and they do just fine. The boxes dont need to be dark you can get clear plastic boxes for them
