Hi All!
New to this forum, although am a member of the Hognose forum :)
Need some help off this one now, lol.
Just wondering has anyone got some tips for us please?
We've recently got an albino king snake, he was two years old when we got him and nearing 3ft. First week or so he was quite calm, bit skittish but OK.
But he's recently taken to biting quite a bit. I've read a lot they are quite a fiesty snake but it was quite a sudden change from when we had him. Sometimes he can be alright and let you hold him and seem quite calm and curious but he has just suddenly turned and sunk his teeth into a nearby hand. Example I was holding him about a week ago and he was fine, slithering around my arm and whatnot, then he started rubbing his nose on my hand and he opened his mouth and started to bite, i managed to stop him ... and he was fine, just carried on mooching around. I think on that instance I may have smelt like something, but I had washed my hands minutes before.
He's eating fine, shedding fine, pooping fine ... and touch wood, he's been OK past few days, we've give him new stuff in his RUB etc. But I'm sure he'll have another "mood swing" soon lol.
Is this normal for them? Any ideas on how to keep him calm etc? Or is it a case of just lump the biting and he'll eventually get better?
Cheers :) |

Welcome to the joys of kings. Some kings do live up to the feisty image that has been given them, unfortunately all you can do is keep going with the handling and he will eventually realise that having a nibble will not get him put away. I have one that is a mentalist and will try the entire threatening, biting thing but is slowly chilling out. Trio on of my others used to be near impossible to handle, it took about 3-4 months in total with him and now if it wasn't for the fact that sometimes he tries to eat himself I would think he's forgotten how to bite.
Just remember the rules as well........ Pics. |

Hahahaha thanks :)
Yeah we're handling him as much as we can :) he's been good the passed few days. He's very very very curious and comes to watch what you're doing when you walk in the room. And ALWAYS trying to escape. Eventually we'll let him around the house to satisfy his curiosity lol but as he's still a bit skittish we don't want hm backed into a corner and to freak out.
He's such the opposite to our hognose, our hoggie is soppy tame x) so kingyboy (Mort .... turning out to be the right name for him! lol) is taking some getting used too. He's such a character though.
OH! Indeed ... I have loads of pics already, will get some up asap. I love his big red eyes. He's very pink ...maybe thats why he's being all mocho haha
Thanks again :) |
