We've had Cormoran 7 days exactly now, and he's fed twice with us. The first time was two pinkies, which he ate very lazily, grabbed them, and swallowed, no coiling no faffing. The second feed was a fuzzy, this one was a much better feed, a big strike and about a million coils about the poor thing. He tried eating it side ways first, then finally ate it backwards... Silly snake, I've got a video (which I'll upload tonight after work) of him after the strike, I missed him striking, but I'll try again next time. He didn't like me watching him eat, his tail was going quite a lot, so the next time will probably be the last time I film him for a little while, the phone almost right in his face was probably a little annoying.
I do have one question. For those that feed out of vivarium, what's the best technique to put the snake back into its vivarium? I waited until he'd fully finished, then held the tub he was being fed in on it's side in his vivarium and he half slid out, half crawled out. Any tips would be appreciated.

I do what you do Amy although it doesn't see to be working very well with my king :( He charges out of the tub halfway and then changes back in or out of the viv itself and onto me XD So after feeding I may just wait half an hour and then just pick him up and plop him back in quickly close the door XD |

When I fed Marv in a different tub I just picked him up after he had eaten and put him back in his rub. |

Hi, i know this may get some tuts but i feed all mine in their own vivs, never had a problem with it. i find it cuts down on stress, especialy with picky feeders, also solves the problem of how to get your snake back into the viv after feeding time! not everyones cup of tea but it's always worked for me! :-) |

Nothing wrong with that. All mine are now fed in the rubs they live in as I have so many and it would take forever to take them all out to feed them. The main worry with feeding inside the viv is the possible ingestion of substrate. I use kitchen roll so it's not an issue for me. |

Feeding in tubs or in viv is purely a personal choice, I feed some of mine in tubs and some in viv, so long as you minimise the chance of ingesting substrate is all good.

My Royal is fed in his vivarium, because he has a large sandstone slab which he can eat off, Cormoran doesn't have anything like that, and his rub is pretty crowded, so he has more places to hide whilst he properly settles in. As he gets older, I'll probably end up feeding in his rub, but for now, I like the idea of handling him before feeding so he doesn't get the "Oh my rubs being opened, it must be food time" thing in his head! He's bitey enough as it is! |
