Hi, I have a 1 year old honduran tangerine milk snake who is set up in a viv I managed to get fairly cheap. The viv is approx. 30"x18"x30 (wxdxh)and the snake is a little over 2ft. My question is : Is there any point in putting in vines etc. to allow my milky to climb? At present there are som which allow him to climb about half way up the viv, however I have never seen him climb. TBH he spends most of the time in a hide or buried beneath the substrate. Is it possible that the viv is too big? Or am I just being neurotic?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The vivarium dimensions sound about right for a Honduran that size. Ideally you'd want s 3 foot for an adult, ideally a 4 foot. Interns of decoration, there's no yes or no answer to "will they climb". Ever snake is am individual. I keep mine in tubs no taller then 8-10", so they have nothing to climb. Naturally, Hondurensis like the majority of sub-species live in the leaf litter, shrubs, they try and avoid being notice (strange I know being bright red).

Thanks Scott, that's put my mind at ease. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't keeping him in unsuitable conditions.

Hi Serpentine, our young Pueblan Milk Snake is in a 24x15x8 inch terrainium at the moment (she's only about 20 inches long so far) and she loves to explore and climb: I've got a fake bendy branch with a plant draped over it and she climbs all over that plus over her hides. She likes to burrow in the aspen too. I don't think it hurts to give them something to climb over/through and moving the hides around seems to pique her curiosity too

1 Pueblan Milk Snake; 1 African Mantis; several of it's locust lunch mates; various Stick Insects); 1 Doberman; several cats; and 5 fish
